FILLING – You can use any type of nut you would like for this recipe. If you aren’t a fan of pecans, try walnuts or almonds in their place. Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips

What kind of apple is best for baking?

Apples that are good for baking and hold their shape include Jonagold, Honeycrisp, Gala, Granny Smith, Braeburn, and Cosmic Crisp (which is what we used in these baked apples). When it comes to baked apples, tart or sweet-tart varieties are best against the sweet cinnamon and oat filling.

Can I use whole apples instead of cutting them in half?

Yes, you can use whole apples (as long as they can stand upright in your air fryer) instead of cutting them in half. Cutting them in half will help cook them quicker, plus, it’s easier to scoop the core this way. If you want to bake whole apples with the filling be sure to choose a medium-sized apple that can stand upright on its own. Add an additional 5 minutes to the cook time, or more if you have a larger apple.
